Simple Safety Tips for Foreigners Living in Thailand
Stay safe and smart while enjoying life in Thailand
Thailand is a friendly and welcoming country, but like any place, it’s important to stay aware and take care of yourself. Whether you’re here short-term or on an ED visa, these simple safety tips can help you avoid problems and enjoy your time in Thailand.
📍
1. Use Trusted Transport
For taxis, use apps like
Grab or
Bolt. They are safer and have fixed prices. If you take a street taxi or motorbike taxi, always agree on the price first. Never get in a car with someone you don’t know well.
📍
2. Watch Out for Scams
Some common scams happen around tourist areas. If someone says a temple is closed and offers a tour, kindly say no. Don’t hand over your passport or money to strangers. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
📍
3. Carry Copies of Documents
Keep a photo or copy of your
passport and visa on your phone. If police or immigration officers ask to see it, you can show the copy. Keep your real passport in a safe place at home.
📍
4. Know Emergency Numbers ☎️
Here are some helpful numbers in Thailand:
- Police: 191
- Tourist Police (English speaking): 1155
- Ambulance:
1669
You can also ask staff at Wave Language School if you need help with a problem.
📍
5. Be Careful with Nightlife
If you go out at night, stay with friends. Don’t leave drinks unattended. Keep your bag or phone close to you. It’s better to take a Grab home instead of walking alone late at night.
